Parenting Young Gamers – May 14th to June 18th

GameAware presents a new program just for parents of 6-11 year olds.

This program focuses on both the prevention and management side of problematic gaming. Primary aged children who play games and use devices need their parents to be the leader on this topic. The trouble is that I see a lot of children come through to secondary school without the ability to self-regulate. I think that some of this problem is normal for young people, but is made worse by excessive gaming and device use. Following the GameAware key strategies will manage or prevent excessive gaming, but more importantly it will help to foster some self-regulation early on so that the time spent gaming doesn’t become problematic in the first place. While this program fouses on video games, we always discuss all aspects of screen time as well. Our wee little gamers will be invited to some of the important sessions and the whole family will feel more empowered on this issue with a solid plan moving forward.
