The Stonnington Council Program

Build a healthier relationship with gaming in your household

STEP 1 - 1on1 mentoring intake session.

Once you register, a GameAware mentor will contact you to book a 1on1 intake session. This is how we prime gamers for the holiday program and help to overcome any resistance your child may have because they will understand that we are gamers too. Make sure they get a chance to vet us as well with the link below. It includes the top 5 reasons why they would want to work with GameAware.

STEP 2 - Holiday Program

This is a 4 day immersion program that helps put gaming into perspective by educating gamers and parents about the culture and psychology of video games and why we sometimes feel compelled to keep playing. Afternoons include activities that remind gamers that real life can offer real reward and satisfaction even if it doesn't come as easily.
The Holiday Program is designed to encourage responsible gaming by improving self-regulation and increasing social connection through additional hobbies, strategies and and self-awareness.  On the other hand, this program is also designed to help gamers enjoy and improve their gaming as they trade quantity for quality.
Families leave the program with a sustainable plan for gaming moving forward by setting goals that are designed to help them find more real life satisfaction and strategies to keep the gaming time healthy.

Testimonials

  •
"The GameAware program educates both gamers and parents on the benefits (mastering an activity/ community engagement) and pitfalls of gaming (work-like addiction / disengagement with "real-life'). Our family has benefited from the GameAware program as we were able to develop a strategy to curb our son's excessive gaming, that is flexible, manageable and ongoing. With a welcoming approach, Andrew has developed a program that young adults understand, respect and find success with. If your children have a gaming addiction OR if you think they may develop a gaming addiction, look no further - your answer is here. Thank you very much Andrew. " - Parent

"An amazing program that produces results. The program hits a nerve with my boy who took on board all the teachings and acted on them. I had been trying for years to get him up and active and off the computer but it took this program to actually do it. I still don't know how. The facilitator is a kid whisperer." - Parent

"The program has been very helpful in making me aware of my own behaviours as a parent and the fact I don't push my son to be responsible for his actions. Ultimately change comes from within and he needs to be the one to regulate his behaviour. As a teacher myself, I have found that I even change the way I speak to students in class when they don't do the right thing. I'm feeling better prepared to help my sons move forward." - Parent and Teacher
